Institute a dedicated area for schooling, and if possible, let your child personalize it.

Establish a school schedule (see suggested daily schedule at the front of Lesson Manual A)

Start the day with an established routine such as a song or the Pledge of Allegiance, so everyone knows the school day is beginning.

Avoid distractions. Let the answering machine take phone calls, and schedule appointments outside your family’s school hours.

Schooling multiple children? Try staggering the start time of lessons for each child, beginning from oldest to youngest, so that the oldest child can work independently while you work with the younger child.

Apply lessons outside the classroom. For instance, you can easily apply math skills at the grocery store.
